Celebrating Sugar Pills Day

Homeopathy Day or Sugar Pill Day a Perspective

Socio-Economic angle:
India is among the world’s biggest market for homeopathy in the world, pegged at Rs 1,500 crore and projected to grow by 20% each year. India has 195 homeopathic medical colleges, 51 homeopathic universities and 27 state councils, which train and register thousands of practitioners each year.

Philosophical based medication:
Following a philosophy of ‘like treats like”, German physician and chemist Samuel Hahnemann developed homeopathy in 1796. He restored health by administering highly diluted amounts of substances such as arsenic, belladonna, sepia, nutmeg or chamomile, which, in larger quantities, cause symptoms like those suffered by the patient.

Dilution & Memory technique:
Hahnemann believed that the water retained a memory of the vital essence of the substance used. Scientists have long questioned the very basis of homeopathy because it seems implausible for such diluted forms of a chemical to have any medical or pharmacological action. In most cases, the final homeopathic preparation does not contain a single molecule of the original herb or mineral.

Clinical trails:
A major nail in the coffin was an analysis of 110 homoeopathy trials and 110 matched conventional-medicine trials published in The Lancet in 2005 that concluded “the clinical effects of homoeopathy are placebo effects”. It found homoeopathic treatments were not more effective than dummy pills, but allopathic medicine were.

Testimony and recommendations:
Homeopathy is the latest and refined method of treating patients economically and nonviolently. Governments must encourage and patronise it in our country. Late Dr. Hahnemann was a man of superior intellectual power and means of saving human life, having a unique medical nerve. I bow before his skill and the Herculean and humanitarian labour he did.  His memory wakes us again and you are to follow him, but the opponents hate the existence of the principles and practice of homeopathy, which in reality cures a larger percentage of cases than any other method of treatment, and it is beyond all doubt safer and more economical and the most complete medical science…  Mahatma Gandhi

“Instead of complaining about homeopathy’s lack of benefit, doctors should contemplate about the failings of modern medicine to address patients’ needs for personalized care. People use homeopathy because it orks for them,” says Dr Ramjee Singh, president, Central Council of Homeopathy, which is hosting a three-day national seminar on homeopathy supported by the Ministry of Ayush in New Delhi from Jan 8-10.

Criticisms:
Nobel laureate Venkatraman Ramakrishnan put the spotlight on homeopathy when he dismissed it as bogus science, but it’s business as usual for the 2.65 lakh registered practitioners of homeopathy in India.

Fact analysis:
Yes, India is a emerging & fastest growing market for health industry, thousands of professionals passing out from colleges each year. A large no. of professionals who practice homeopathy as treatment specialist or certified homeopath(I don't know wether they can be called as DOCTORS or NOT)

Any medicine should be based on pathology, physiology and it should have pharmacokinetics, Pharmacodynamics data. Homeopathy medicine is based on PHILOSOPHY. So, we should keep in mind while choosing a right option.

The technic using to make homeopathy pills "Dilution & Memory technique", where is no science has been confirmed water has memory. As per this technique the highly powerful pill doesn't contain the original molecule, the molecule which has the efficiency to treat the disease. In a common language we can say 'a powerful homeopathic pill has Zero medicine but Sugar.'

Many Homeopathic hospitals and clinics refer MAHATMA GANDHI words about this treatment option. But we should know GANDHI JI is a Lawyer by professional qualification. Not a researcher, scientist or even a doctor.

We should keep in mind about the words of Nobel laureate Venktaraman Ramakrishnan because he is a scientist. We should also take into consideration the clinical trail & Lancet Publication about homeopathy because LANCET is an international Journal, clinical trail is one of the important tool for FACT assessment.
